We look forward to welcoming you to Joseph Aspdin International Symposium on Innovations in Binder Technology
(ISIBT 2024) organised by Heriot-Watt University. This symposium will take place in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland on
Friday 12th July 2024.

This one-day symposium is being held to celebrate the bicentenary of Joseph Aspdin’s patent for Portland cement. The primary aim is to provide a knowledge-sharing and networking platform for researchers and practitioners to discuss advances in binder science and technology since the invention of Portland cement back in 1824.

Topics covered include, but not limited to, developments in cementitious materials (including low carbon applications and materials for repair and maintenance), novel characterisation and monitoring techniques, new binders (including alkali activation), assessment of binder performance, computational methods for cement hydration and transport analysis, and special binders for novel applications (e.g., carbon capture and storage, carbon sequestration, and 3D printing).
